944 S3 = 968
This is a short article of the video I made on the Porsche 968. See it on Youtube for more details!
Not a new car, it’s a 944 S3. Porsche 968 is the ultimate…944! But it’s sooo much more! A truly rare classic Porsche that’s s finally getting the attention it deserves. Let’s dig in to this beast!
944 S3 = Porsche 968
Can a 4 Cylinder Porsche be Powerful/Fun? When you first think about speed, a 4-cyl is not what everyone thinks about. But they should! This engine is bigger than lots of V6’s, with a lot more torque!
It competed with the Corvette’s 5.7 L98, that only had about 250hp. Its incredible how much power was packed into this engine…especially back in the 1990’s.
The Porsche 968 was never meant to be “A Deal-Bargain”.
Just because it was priced under other Porsche’s, it doesn’t mean that it was entry level. This was a car that had its engineering perfected with the 944.
- Incredible styling. Porsche 968 front styling similar to the Porsche 959!
- Proven Ergonomics. 968 has the same interior as the 944, which is GREAT!
- Rare. Porsche 968’s will always be rare & exclusive.
- True 6 Speed. Yes, the transmission is not just 2 extra overdrives for better fuel economy. It’s got six usable gears. This means FUN!
Lots of versions came on the 968 Some are clearly more collectable than others. Yes the CS stands out as the one to get, but is it worth such a huge premium? For resell…YES. To enjoy as a fun daily driver? Maybe.
The Cabriolet is actually a Speedster!
The windshield on the convertibles was actually cut down… to lower its profile. Whenever Porsche does this, they can it a speedster. It’s got an incredible profile!
These fabrics are rare compared to other Porsche’s. This has collectors searching for this nicest ones all over the globe.
Who is the 968 for??
This Porsche is for someone that wants something a bit more exclusive….and FUN. The maintenance is similar to the Porsche 944, but with the added improvements that where done through the years.
Whenever searching for one, make sure that all its maintenance is up to date. Otherwise you might be playing the catchup game on deferred maintenance….it can get VERY expensive. Let me put it to you this way: It will cost you less to buy one that is up to date on everything, even if you pay a little more upfront.
